Some of you received an email before the holidays detailing some of the skill building you should be doing in the off season and the months leading up to Spring Lacrosse Preparation.
While the official season is a few months away there are a few things you all should be doing in order to get ready.
*Stay in shape*... If you are participating in other sports, this winter great. If not, please find a way to maintain good aerobic fitness.Youth players are about the age where you can start to do this. You can also go to the YMCA. They have plenty of classes for members that will help you get on a routine for winter fitness.
*Wall Ball.*...This is the most important activity you can do for your lacrosse skills. You should have a stick and a ball at this point. Get into a routing of taking your stick and ball to a good wall at least three times a week. The high school is a good place, both indoors and outdoors. You should spend 20 minutes on the wall each time. You will see some of the older kids at school with their sticks. They are getting ready for Varsity and Junior Varsity. Join them. They are the leaders of the sport in town. They will help you, encourage you and because in a year or two they will be your teammates.
I have attached links to three videos that you should use. Follow the techniques in the videos during your wall ball routines. The first two talk about practicing catching and throwing and moving your feet and body. These are good habits.
The third video is about practicing throwing behind your back. This is a hard skill to learn but I am asking you all to practice this a lot for two reasons. 1 - if you develop this skill I will know you have been working in the off season. 2 - while some people think this is hot dogging, I know this is an appropriate skill to use in real games and we will be using it in drills this spring so you have to learn it anyway.
